It was a lovely moment to see the experienced French talisman, Karim Benzema, win the outstanding Ballon D’Or award tonight, 17 October,2022.

This was a reward for his outstanding performance in the 2021/2022 season as his team won both the domestic league ( La Liga), and the UEFA Champions League.

In addition, he was the highest goal scorer of the aforementioned competitions for his club side, Real Madrid, scoring 44 goals in all competition and 6 goals for his country side, France, as they won the UEFA Nations League.

So far with the above mentioned performances of the French striker, Benzema, it would be fair to say that it was a well-deserved award, as it was obvious that no other player in the world was no where near to his achievements.

It was surprising to know that the world record seven times Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi, couldn’t make it to the first 20 ranking as his second Cristiano Ronaldo, who won same award 5 times, was the 20th in the ranking.

These two are said to be football gods as they drew the attention of football fans attention to themselves for over a decade and that’s really outstanding.

The current Ballon D’Or winner, Benzema, has set a record over Messi and CR7, with just one win, as he is the second oldest player in the world to win the award at age 34, after the English man Stanley Matthews, won the very first Ballon d’Or in 1956 at age 41.
