Chelsea are reportedly ‘interested’ in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and they are preparing to move for him in January.
Guimaraes has made quite an impact since joining Newcastle United earlier this year from Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Arsenal were previously linked with the Brazil international but Newcastle secured his services with around £40m spent to bring him in.
The 24-year-old hit the ground running in the Premier League last term and his superb form has continued into this season.
Guimaraes has grabbed seven goals and three assists in 27 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions.
It was never going to be long until rival clubs came sniffing around Guimaraes, and Chelsea are doing just that, according to GOAL Brazil.
The Blues are ‘interested’ in the Newcastle United standout and they are understood to be ‘studying a proposal’.
The report notes that an offer is yet to be sent to the Magpies as Chelsea’s plan is to launch their pursuit as soon as the January transfer window opens.
A potential fee is not mentioned but it is confirmed that Guimaraes’ contract at Newcastle does not include a release clause.
Guimaraes has also been linked with Real Madrid but GOAL Brazil claim that the Spanish side have so far ‘made no contact’ with Newcastle.
It comes as no surprise that Newcastle have no intention to let their prized asset leave so soon and the report adds that they are ‘preparing an offer’ for a new contract.
The Magpies are said to be willing to make Guimaraes their highest earner so he would be taking away around £200,000 per week.
Earlier this month, Football Insider reported the same thing, with Newcastle hoping to keep Guimaraes at the club until 2028 at the earliest.
Football Insider suggest that Guimaraes currently earns £120,000 per week so he could be in line for an £80,000 pay rise.
His current deal is not due to expire until 2026 so if he were to leave Newcastle, they would be able to demand a huge fee.
A move to Chelsea feels rather unlikely, at least for now. Guimaraes recently spoke glowingly about his time up to now at Newcastle.
“It’s a dream come true to be playing in the Premier League. Everything is amazing. Sometimes I think to myself, ‘I was born for this, for the Premier League’.
“I already feel at home here.
“The fans are crazy about me, and nothing beats that in football. Honestly, I get so much love out on the streets that sometimes it feels like I’m the mayor of the city!
“They spot me and start yelling my name, wanting to take a picture. I’ve met people who’ve got a tattoo with my face on! It’s nuts. That’s the love fans have.”
