The Blues will shift their attention to their next English Premier League game where they will be at loggerheads with Brighton and Hove Albion after a 2-1 win against Salzburg away from home.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and his camp succeeded in enriching their squad depth this summer with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Gabriel Slonina, and Raheem Sterling making a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to reports coming from The Evening Standard, Chelsea is plotting contract negotiations with Kovacic. The report has it that the club hopes to begin talks over a new deal at the start of 2023, once the World Cup is over.

Kovacic who is 28, has been in stunning form over the past few seasons, but he has less than two years remaining on his current Blues deal.

The report adds that the former Inter Milan man has featured in every match since returning to action against Leicester in August, following a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
