Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Raphael Varane will be unavailable until at least the World Cup, after sustaining an injury against Chelsea.

After overstretching during the 1-1 draw against Chelsea and tumbling to the floor in distress, Varane was forced off injured and looked distraught.

Ten Hag has now confirmed that he won’t feature for United again in the run-up to next month’s World Cup.

The 29 year old was forced off with a hamstring injury against Chelsea on Saturday and will be unavailable for the upcoming games against FC Sheriff, West Ham, Real Sociedad, Aston Villa in the Premier League and the League Cup, and Fulham.

Victor Lindelof is likely to partner Lisandro Martinez against Sheriff but Harry Maguire could return to the United squad for the first time in six weeks after recovering from a thigh strain.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of United’s Europa League game against Sheriff Tiraspol, Erik ten Hag confirmed that Varane won’t play for the club before the World Cup after suffering an injury against Chelaea.

“Raphael Varane isn’t in the squad. He will be out until the World Cup. He won’t play in this block for Man United.”
