Group A

Liverpool 2-0 Napoli

Rangers 1-3 Ajax

Two late goals sealed a 2-0 win for Liverpool against Napoli, but the scoreline was not enough for Liverpool to overtake Napoli, so they settled for second spot on the table.

However, Liverpool remained unbeaten against Napoli at Anfield in all European competitions. Rangers are the first Scottish side to exit the Champions League without a point after falling to defeat against Ajax.

Porto 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Leverkusen 0-0 Club Brugge

On matchday six, Porto defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 to claim the Group B top spot. Both teams had multiple opportunities late in the game after the insertion of several replacements, which converted the match into an end-to-end free-for-all.

Early in the second half, Porto had the better chances. Although they had optimism late in the game thanks to Marcano’s own goal, Atletico Madrid was still unable to comeback.

But it was too little, too late, and to make matters worse, Leverkusen’s goalless draw with Brugge meant that Atletico Madrid was also ousted from the European competition.

Group C

Bayern Munich 2-0 Inter Milan

Viktoria Plzen 2-4 Barcelona

Bayern Munich made Champions League history by winning every game in its group in consecutive seasons. Bayern Munich were able to easily win and set a record because this game was largely superfluous.

Bayern were able to overcome Inter’s excellent resistance. As soon as Choupo-Moting gave Bayern a 2-0 advantage in the second half, the game was over. Barcelona finished their Champions League campaign with a 4-2 victory over Viktoria Plzen.

Group D

Sporting 1-2 Frankfurt

Marseille 1-2 Tottenham

The Tottenham smash-and-grab victory sends the English side through to the last 16, while Marseille crash out of Europe.

A last-minute winner was the reward for Tottenham’s improved second-half display, and Marseille will surely rue not capitalising on their absolute dominance before the interval.

Tottenham’s first away win in five Champions League matches is enough to seal the top spot in Group D; their hosts finish rock-bottom.
