A Northern group, Arewa Youth Assembly, has called for the sack of the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), and service chiefs over the possibility of a terror attack in Abuja.

The call came days after the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada had warned that terrorists were plotting to attack the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Also, countries like Germany, Bulgaria, Ireland, and Denmark have cautioned their citizens living in Abuja to be on alert and stop visits to public places.

The US Embassy had in a statement on Sunday announced that it would offer reduced services until further notice and urged American citizens to avoid non-essential movements.

The statement added that possible targets by the terrorists may include government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations.

Also, in an advisory issued on Sunday by its Embassy in Abuja, the United Kingdom advised its citizens in Nigeria to stay alert and consider their movements carefully.

The British government also urged its citizens to follow the local news and the advice of security authorities in order not to be victims of a terrorist attack.

However, in a statement on Friday by its Speaker, Mohammed Danlami, the assembly called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the security chiefs and all heads of intelligence agencies.

The group said despite millions budgeted for security and the procurement of equipment to aid intelligence gathering, the nation’s capital was susceptible to terror attacks.

The assembly said it is however shameful that it took the intervention of the United States of America to expose the plans of the terrorists to attack Abuja.

The statement partly read, “It is unimaginable that despite the astronomic increase in our security budget and procurement of equipment to aid intelligence gathering, it took the intervention of the United States of America to expose the plans of the terrorists to attack our nation’s capital.”
