Ghana star, Osman Bukari has revealed why he opted for Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark celebration ‘Siu’ after scoring against Portugal during Black Stars’ 3-2 defeat in the World Cup on Thursday.

He rubbished the claims that he was disrespecting the football icon by adopting the celebration shortly after the 37-year-old had used it after firing in Portugal’s opener from the spot.

Bukari said that he only copied the striker’s trademark celebration as he was ‘overcome by emotion’, revealing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is his idol.

Portugal kick-started their World Cup campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ghana in Doha on Thursday.

Portugal were 3-1 up within ten minutes but Bukari headed home Ghana’s second of the evening late on and emulated Ronaldo’s famous celebration.

Taking to social media, Bukari said he has noticed comments being made over his celebration claiming he was making mockery of the superstar.

“This is incorrect. I was overcome by the emotion of the moment of scoring for my country on my World Cup debut leading to my celebration,” he explained.

Bukari, who said he was not brought up to disrespect elders, “let alone one of my idols,” thanked the fans for their support and looked forward to the next game.
